What to Include on Your Website Homepage
Think of your homepage as a welcome mat for the rest of your website. It should include snippets from all the major pages/sections of your website. The most important thing is that you’re inviting them to stay a little longer.
01. What You Do / Who You Serve
First things first! At the very top of your page include a catchy headline that captures the impact of what you do and/or who you do it for. It’s important that people know how you can help them, and that you make this clear above the fold (aka before they have to scroll down the page!)
02. How you Help
Give a brief overview of your services. Whatever primary offerings you want to highlight, provide a big picture view. Don’t list all of you service details, but think of “categories” and include them along with links to a separate page(s) with more details.
03. Quick Intro
Introduce yourself and show them the face behind the brand. This isn’t your full bio - you’ll link to an About Page - it’s just a short and sweet intro that piques interest in you and your business.
04. Invitation to Connect
Invite them to connect with you in one way or another. Some ideas include: a newsletter sign up, a freebie opt-in, an introduction to your podcast, a link to your social media group or account, etc. The point is, you want to extend a (virtual) hand and say, “hey, we’d love for you to be a part of our community”.
05. Showcase Your Work
If it makes sense for your business, give them a peek at some of your work. Showcase highlights from your portfolio, or include some before and after photos. Now that they know what you do, who you serve, and a little about you, they’ll want to see what your work actually looks like.
06. Share the Impact
Include some testimonials from past clients/customers. They’ve made it this far on your page, so show them how satisfied your past customers have been.
07. Another Invitation to Connect / Learn More
At the end of you page, think about adding links to your most popular blog posts or another way for them to stay on your website. This could be another opt-in or invitation to join your newsletter. Point is, you don’t want them to leave just yet.
PRO-TIP:
You should include several CTA’s (Calls to Action)throughout your homepage. It’s not too much to have one in each of these sections. Some examples of great CTA’s include: “Let’s Chat!”, “I need this!”, “Inquire Now”, “Let’s Do This!”, “Contact Us”, “Book a Consultation”, etc.
Try to infuse personality into these, especially if personality is a big part of your brand voice.
